Young Carers In Schools Award

Ann-marie Leather,  St Helens Young Carers Centre's School Liaison Officer is working closely with a number of local schools to help them support Young Carers effectively within their schools,

St Helens Young Carers Centre has been selected as one of 14 Young Carers Centres in England to be able to initiate this ne wprogramme in schools.

Young Carers in Schools is an exciting England wide initiative that equips schools to support young carers and awards the school's good practice with a series of awards.

Run jointly by Carers Trust, The Children's Soceity Young Carers in Focus and locally, St Helens Young Carers Centre, we are improving the identification and support of Young Carers in schools, so that they get the help they need.  The initiavite is being funded by  The Queen's Trust and The Big Lottery Fund.

By taking part in the programme, Schools will be bale to show they are meeting the needs of a particular vulnerable group of pupils (specifically mentioned in OFSTED's School Inspection Handbook).

Local schools can now apply for an award (Bronze to Gold) for the support they offer to Young Carers.  If your school would like to apply for the Young Carers Award, please contact Ann-Marie Leather on 01744 67 72 79 and she will explain the simple process to you.
