Working with Schools

Briefing and training

Young Carers deserve consistent support across St Helens. It is important that agencies and schools have an understanding around Young Carers so that they can identify, signpost, and support Young Carers, hidden and identified.

We can facilitate free, bespoke sessions, workshops, staff training or assemblies to suit your service.

If you would like us to arrange a briefing session to your service, please contact TanyaButt@sthelenscarers.org.uk 😊

Assemblies

To encourage hidden Young Carers to self-identify and to raise awareness across the school, we can deliver assemblies to suit each key- stage area.

Feedback from our Outreach

"Very informative and highlighted issues that some children may face."

"Many thanks for the work you do with children & young people. Restoring their self-esteem & giving them opportunities."

"Kayleigh & Tanya where excellent in the way they shared the work of Young Carers in

St Helens to our Mother’s Union group."

"Thank you, it’s really good to know there is a service providing this support for our young children."

"It’s nice to know what your offer is to children and families. Youngsters & children have a ‘family’ beyond their own. Thank you."

Did you know that schools are now required to report their Young Carers statistics on the latest school census? ï»¿

This enables a much better picture of the number of young carers in schools, but also provides an opportunity to highlight the need for schools to provide best practice towards Young Carers.

It is our goal to establish a staff member in each school across St Helens to be our Young Carer Champion.

Their role is to:

• Advocate for Young Carers within the school

• Identify hidden Young Carers

• Ensuring the wider staff team are aware of Young Carers.

• Liaise and communicate with our service.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support!
