Working with Schools

Briefing and training

Young Carers deserve consistent support across St Helens. It is important that agencies and schools have an understanding around Young Carers so that they can identify, signpost and support Young Carers, hidden and identified.

We can facilitate free, bespoke sessions, workshops, or assemblies to suit your service.

If you would like us to arrange a briefing session to your service, please contact elenifoskett@sthelenscarers.org.uk 😊

Assemblies

To encourage hidden Young Carers to self identify and to raise awareness across the school, we can deliver assemblies to suit each key- stage area.

Feedback from Rainford High: The Young Carers Assemblies ran for the second year at Rainford, reaching over 1000 students across 5 days of assemblies. the Assemblies were fantastic for providing insight into the lives of young carers (both the challenges and positives) and provided an opportunity to open up conversations about what the lives of young carers are like. Alongside the assemblies, we also had a stall at break time for our students to ask more questions- we had over 50 students come to find out more about young carers and ask questions, showing the success of the assemblies in opening up conversations!

Young Carer Champion

Did you know that schools are now required to report their Young Carers stats on the latest school census?

This enables a much better picture of the number of young carers in schools, but also provides an opportunity to highlight the need for schools to provide best practice towards Young Carers.

It is our goal to establish a staff member in each school across St Helens to be our Young Carer Champion.

Their role is to:

• Advocate for Young Carers within the school

• Identify hidden Young Carers

• Ensuring the wider staff team are aware of Young Carers.

• Liaise and communicate with our service.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support!
