Young Adult Carers

We offer additional support to Young Adult Carers who are aged between 16 and 21 and were their caring role is going to continue into adulthood we work with them through transition into our Adult Carer services.
Some of the additional support we provide includes:

Working Towards Future Goals

Helping them to think about what they would like to do in the future as we recognise it can be very difficult to think about a career when caring for a family member. We support them to look at the options available so that they can make an informed choice.

External Agencies

Looking at what other support is available in the borough from external agencies for both the Young Adult Carer and their family so as to enable the Young Adult Carer access future opportunities eg. training, education or employment opportunities. We will make referrals into these services on their behalf.

Careers

Supporting them when applying for educational courses (Eg. College applications, university statements). We will help to look at what is available with respect to training opportunities, apprenticeships, volunteering or looking  for a job.

Referrals

Referring into agencies that specialise in helping people to get into work eg. Ways to Work.

Referring into our Income Maximisation Team who specialise in completing benefit checks  for the family as whole so as to ensure the cared for person is receiving the welfare benefits they are entitled to.

CV Support

Helping with CVs and preparing for an interview to increase confidence.

Hosting CV workshops for external support and advice

YADS Activity Group

Access to YADS activity Group, this group is just for Young Adult Carers, it enables them to socialise with other people in a similar situation. There are also workshops on employability and financial budgeting. As well as trips out and CV filling opportunities

“I graduated today! I now have a bachelor of science in child health and well-being (I have letters behind my name!) I genuinely wouldn't have got here if it wasn't for you, and all the support from the carers! There were times I didn't even think I'd finish sixth form never mind university.

Thank you, for everything. You really have made such a positive impact on my life, you always will and I'm eternally grateful for that and you – Thank you.”
